Mayuge District Marks Historic Milestone with First Official Leadership Handover Ceremony
In a landmark event held today, Friday,15th May 2026, the outgoing Chairperson of Mayuge District, Bishop Frank Tibagendeka, officially transferred authority to the Chief Administrative Officer, Mr. Batambuze Abdu. The ceremony took place at the district headquarters and serves as a formal transition period before the incoming Chairperson, Mr. Ziija David, is sworn into office this coming Monday, 18th May 2026.
The handover was attended by a broad range of district leadership and security officials, including: District Executive Committee members, Heads of Department, Assistant Resident District Commissioners (ARDCs), members of the District Service Commission, District Police Commander (DPC) and the District Internal Security Officer (DISO).
During the ceremony, the Chief Administrative Officer Mr. Batambuze Abdu commended the outgoing Chairperson and his team for maintaining a productive, harmonious relationship with the district's technical staff. While many government initiatives remain in progress, Mr. Batambuze assured that the incoming Chairperson would oversee their full implementation. A primary focus for the new administration will be the construction of the District Administration Block. The outgoing Chairperson specifically guided that a portion of the Discretionary Development Equalization Grant (DDEG) funds be allocated to this project.
"You have left no problem unguided," Mr. Batambuze remarked, encouraging the Bishop to keep Mayuge at heart and wishing him the very best in his future endeavours.
In accordance with the legal protocols governing local government transitions, Bishop Frank Tibagendeka formally transferred authority by handing over the official report, the district stamp and the keys to both the office and the official vehicle to Mr. Batambuze Abdu.
"I assumed this office on 19th May 2021, and today, 15th May 2026, marks a historic milestone. In line with official guidelines, I am handing over to the CAO as the custodian of district assets, who will then transition the office to the incoming District Chairperson." Bishop Tibagendeka said
Bishop Tibagendeka encouraged the incoming administration to prioritize key pending initiatives, specifically the proposed partitioning of Mayuge District into new administrative units, including Kityerera District and Mayuge Municipality, to enhance service delivery.
He attributed the successes achieved between 2021 and 2026 to a strong spirit of collaboration. He extended his gratitude to several key stakeholders, including: the CAO and district staff for their consistent teamwork, the Office of the RDC, religious leaders, political colleagues, development partners for their support, and thanking His Excellency President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for his guidance and the government’s continued support of Mayuge District during his tenure.
The outgoing District Vice Chairperson Mr. Tasiibula Peter Nkwanga noted that this ceremony marks a historic milestone, being the first official handover in the history of Mayuge District. He commended the outgoing Chairperson for his five years of leadership and for establishing this new precedent of a formal office transition. Mr. Tasiibula extended his gratitude to the CAO for their close collaboration over the past 14 months. While wishing the incoming team success, he emphasized the importance of maintaining the current atmosphere of stability, stating, "We are leaving behind a tranquil and political harmony."
The Assistant Resident District Commissioner Mr. Magezi Lazaro expressed his appreciation for the outgoing administration, noting that significant progress was achieved during their tenure. He specifically highlighted the contributions of the District Vice Chairperson in driving these accomplishments.
Looking ahead, Mr. Magezi emphasized the importance of momentum, urging both the civil service and the incoming government to prioritize continuity in service delivery to ensure that the district's development remains on track.
