Parliamentary committee visits Mayuge
The committee of parliament on gender, labor and social development today visited the district to assess the performance of government programs that is Youth livelihood program (YLP) and Uganda women's empowerment program (UWEP). The focus of their visit was mainly on how much money had been disbursed amongst the different groups in each of the programs, how much had been recovered by the district so far and whether the programs were a success or not.
A number of groups under each of the programs were visited including Kaluba boda boda association (YLP) in busakira sub county, Twegaitte women's group (UWEP), Batude stationary (YLP), Alama catering services in Mayuge town council among others.
it was however noted that these groups are doing little than expected as far as paying back the money that was given to them is concerned. Most of them blame the low recovery rate on Covid-19 and the lockdown that most of them were not working for almost a year which affected their ability to pay back among other issues.
