UCSATP Launches Distribution of 750 Fish Nets and 30 Life Jackets
The Uganda Climate Smart Agricultural Transformation Project (UCSATP) officially launched a UGX: 54 million fishing gear distribution initiative in Jagusi Sub-county, Mayuge District. Held on Thursday, 4th June 2026, at Bwondha Landing Site, the event marked the handover of 750 fish nets and 30 life jackets to the Masolya Twegaite Fishers Association. This strategic intervention is designed to boost fish production, elevate local livelihoods, and significantly improve water safety standards for the area's fishing communities.
It is noteworthy that the beneficiary group contributed 20% (UGX: 10,800,000) of the total cost of the inputs, demonstrating commitment and ownership of the project. The remaining 80% (UGX: 43, 200,000) was jointly financed by the Government of Uganda and the World Bank under the UCSATP framework.
The launch was officiated by the Assistant Resident District Commissioner in charge of Bunya South, Mr. Bazanya Ramathan, who commended the Government of Uganda and the World Bank for supporting fishing communities through productive investments. He encouraged beneficiaries to utilize the inputs responsibly and sustainably to improve household incomes and contribute to local economic development.
During the event, Secretary for Finance Hon. Owori Isaac (representing District Chairperson Hon. Ziija David) urged the community to take full ownership and responsibility for the newly acquired equipment. Additionally, Hon. Komugisha Barbara, Secretary for Production, Works, and Technical Services, pledged the district’s continuous support for initiatives that drive the fisheries sector forward.
Representing the Chief Administrative Officer, Mr. Batambuze Abdu, the Senior Assistant Chief Administrative Officer for Jagusi Sub-county, Ms. Namusisi Cecilia, commended the beneficiaries for their ongoing cooperation and strong commitment to government programs.
The district leadership urged beneficiaries to safeguard the inputs, adhere to fisheries regulations, and maximize the benefits from the investment to ensure sustainability and long-term impact.
Other district leaders and technical officers who attended the function included: Dr. Kasadha Mathias (District Production Officer), Mr. Balangha Emmanuel (Deputy District Internal Security Officer), Mr. Emmanuel Kawuzi Waiswa (UCSATP Focal Person), Ms. Nalukwago Latifah from Mcash, Technical staff from the fisheries sector led by Mr. Kitimbo Godfrey (Senior Fisheries Officer).
